Also in less than an hour you can be in major towns such as Carlow, Portlaoise, Athlone and Kilkenny. Even closer again, in less than 30 minutes distance from Kinnitty we have major towns Tullamore (Tullamore Dew) Roscrea, and Birr.

The Slieve Bloom routes through Glendine and the Cut have increased in popularity with road cyclists over the years.
The gentle rolling hills of the Slieve Bloom Mountains rise from the central plains of Ireland, forming a natural link between the counties of Laois and of Offaly. The area is picturesque, peaceful, gloriously multi-coloured and one of the least explored in Ireland. Dotted around the mountains are quaint little villages, and to visit one is like stepping back in time to an era when life moved at a slower pace. These are the places where people will take the time to talk to you, will listen to your stories and enjoy telling you theirs. According to the locals the Slieve Bloom have everything, except the sea!
The Slieve Bloom are easily accessible from all corners of Ireland. However, as well as being a wonderful destination in their own right, their central location makes the area an ideal base for visitors wishing to make trips to other parts of Ireland.
The Slieve Bloom, along with the Massif Central in France, are the oldest mountains in Europe; they were once also the highest at 3,700m. Weathering has reduced them to 527m. On a clear day, one can see the high points of the four ancient provinces of Ireland.

Summary: We booked this stay without any knowledge of the area. Cora was very friendly and helpful in our conversations. We met her a few minutes after arriving in Kinnitty. The townhouse was located very conveniently and just about across the street from one of the local pubs. The area is very quiet but the pubs get lively. We enjoyed hiking in the trails near the Kinnitty Castle and our trips to areas close to Kinnitty. We easily made day trips to Birr, Galway and the area around Tullamore. We made most of our own meals and this was easily accomplished in the well equipped kitchen of the townhouse. This was a great place to stay.

Summary: Was a great few days to get away, and this house was a lovely base of operations. It's in a great location in Kinnitty village, was clean and well-equipped, and suited us very well. I also appreciated the binder full of things to do in the area.
